<p>This is the classic question most of us hear during an interview. It&#8217;s often preceded by the phrase, &#8220;I&#8217;ve already interviewed another person for this position who looks perfect.&#8221; Then comes the killer question&#8230; &#8220;Why should I hire YOU?&#8221;</p>
<p>Be careful to avoid clever retorts or comedic one-liners here. Your interview is serious business and a wrong answer will send you packing. This is, in fact, the one question that interviewers like to ask because the answer can so easily separate the contenders from the also-rans. Give a wrong answer and the large &#8220;Game Over&#8221; sign flashes above your head.</p>
<p>[i]The &#8216;Story&#8217; Approach[/i]</p>
<p>What they really want to know is, [i]&#8220;How are you different than all the other candidates who have applied for this position?&#8221; [/i] With this in mind, a good way to approach your answer here is to launch into your best &#8220;story&#8221; that answers this question, &#8220;Will you go the extra mile?&#8221;</p>
<p>Why is the employer asking why they should hire you? Because there are only five areas of interest that they have about you as a candidate:</p>
<p>1.  Your skills<br />
2.  Your knowledge about the company<br />
3.  Your manageability<br />
4.  Your affordability<br />
5.  Whether you can go above and beyond your job description</p>
<p>In this day of &#8220;lean and mean&#8221; operations philosophy, employers are looking for employees who can think bigger and perform duties above and beyond their jobs.</p>
<p>Remember to tell a good story &#8211; FACTS TELL &#8211; STORIES SELL!  Back up the WHY with real examples that stand you apart from the crowd and personalise your achievements.</p>
<p>Demonstrate Your Accomplishments</p>
<p>Realize that there will always be competing candidates with a higher skill level, more experience, more education/training, or even a smoother interviewing style. The one equalizer though, is the ability to demonstrate how you have risen above and gone that extra mile to accomplish an important task, complete the job or realize an important goal.</p>
<p>Here, you recount that story of exactly how you worked 60-hour weeks, acquired new skills, or whatever it took to distinguish yourself and meet the challenge head on to successfully make the sale, save the project or rescue a client. If you can monetize (put a £pound value on) the end result, your story will only be that much more dramatic.</p>
<p>Tell It Often</p>
<p>Knowing this ahead of time, it&#8217;s wise to put in the time beforehand to work on your answer to this question. Pick your best example of how you went above and beyond in your job. Work on your story to perfect it. Set the scene, describe the challenge and describe your role and the successful conclusion. Use this as an example of how you use your particular set of skills in an extraordinary time to &#8220;give it your all&#8221; and produce a clear benefit to your employer.</p>
<p>Since no other candidate can duplicate your own personal story here, you&#8217;ll make a memorable impression. Not only that, but quite possibly you&#8217;ll pull yourself ahead of that &#8220;perfect&#8221; candidate who preceded you.</p>

<p><!--proximic_content_on--><strong>What do you actually do?</strong></p>
<p>I play poker with people in casinos and poker clubs for money. I play cash poker, where you put up your own money, and take part in poker tournaments, where there&#8217;s an entry fee of a certain amount – from around £50 up to £1,000 or more – then it&#8217;s free, and the winner takes a percentage of the money in the prize pool at the end. I generally prefer to play &#8220;live&#8221; poker in front of other people, rather than online poker.</p>
<p><strong>What&#8217;s your working schedule like?</strong></p>
<p>I work for myself, so I decide how often I play and when. Usually, I play two or three nights a week in a poker club or casino, plus sometimes a couple of tournaments on the internet. A standard 100 player poker tournament might last from 8pm until 4am – but you might get knocked out after 10 minutes. If you&#8217;re playing cash poker, you can play for as long as you can afford to keep going.</p>
<p><strong>What do you love about it?</strong></p>
<p>It&#8217;s the absolute freedom from the humdrum, nine-to-five rat race. I hate to be pinned down in an office. I have no boss, and I work when I want to. Playing poker is my only source of income, but I&#8217;ve never seen it as a job. I really enjoy the psychological aspect of the game. You have to get inside people&#8217;s heads.</p>
<p><strong>What&#8217;s not great about it?</strong></p>
<p>It can be infuriating. There is a lot of luck involved in poker, so you can outplay your opponent but still lose if they get a really lucky hand. A single card can ruin everything. But that element of luck can work in your favour as well. If there was no luck involved, it would be boring.</p>
<p><strong>What skills do you need to do the job well?</strong></p>
<p>You need the mental discipline to make the right choice at the right time. You can&#8217;t allow yourself to make irrational decisions based on a bad hand. You&#8217;ve got to focus and carry on with the game. You should be analytical, with the psychological skills to read people. For instance, if someone picks up their chips and you notice that their hand is shaking, it could mean that they have a fantastic hand. Having a good grasp of maths, and understanding odds and percentages, will help you – although some players ignore maths and just go by gut instinct.</p>
<p><strong>What advice would you give someone with their eye on your job?</strong></p>
<p>Think long and hard before you give up your day job. I often wish that I had a second source of income. In March, I came fifth in a big tournament and won £26,500 – but you can easily play for months without winning any significant amount of money. With live poker, you have to pay for travel costs, hotels and petrol, so there are expenses involved. Ideally you should keep your poker money and household money separate – you should have at least a year&#8217;s worth of living expenses saved up to cover you through the bad times.</p>
<p><strong>What&#8217;s the salary and career path like?</strong></p>
<p>How much you earn is completely down to the individual. One friend of mine has just won £500,000; on the other hand, you could make a loss. For a standard tournament with 100 players who all pay a £50 entrance fee in order to take part, the winner would get to take home around 30 per cent of the £5,000 prize pool – about £1,500. A very lucky few get sponsorship deals, which mean you don&#8217;t have to use your own money to enter tournaments.</p>

<div><span>The recession is effecting many businesses, every time we turn on the news we hear stories of businesses having to make redundancies, and many people are loosing their jobs at a time when living costs are going up.</span></div>
<p><span>I hear countless stories about people registering with agencies and not hearing anything. But really it isnt surprising and the agencies are not to blame, as there are not many jobs about, and the jobs that are about, employers do not want to pay out the large agency fees to get people as cutting costs at a time like this is crucial.</p>
<p>Recruitment agencies charge employers a percentage of your salary if the employer hires you.</p>
<p>Here is an example of what an agency will charge your future potential employer&#8230;</p>
<p>£15,000 &#8211; 15% commission = £2250 + VAT = £2644<br />
£18,000 &#8211; 17% commission = £3060 + VAT = £3596<br />
£20,000 &#8211; 20% commission = £4000 + VAT = £4700<br />
£25,000 &#8211; 25% commission = £6250 + VAT = £7344<br />
£30,000 &#8211; 25% commission = £7500 + VAT = £8813</p>

<p>It is not what happens to you that counts. It is how you react to what happens to you, especially when you have unexpected problems of any kind.</p>
<p>In this article, you will learn powerful strategies you can use to keep yourself thinking and acting positively and creatively.</p>
<p>Here are four things you can do to assure that your attitude is the very best it can be, under all circumstances.</p>
<p>1. Focus On the Future<br />
First, whatever challenges you face, focus on the future rather than on the past. Instead of worrying about who did what and who is to blame, focus on where you want to be and what you want to do. Get a clear mental image of your ideal successful future, and then take whatever action you can to begin moving in that direction. Get your mind, your thoughts, and your mental images on the future.</p>
<p>2. Think About the Solution<br />
Second, whenever you&#8217;re faced with a difficulty, focus on the solution rather than on the problem. Think and talk about the ideal solution to the obstacle or setback, rather than wasting time rehashing and reflecting on the problem. Solutions are inherently positive, whereas problems are inherently negative. The instant that you begin thinking in terms of solutions, you become a positive and constructive human being.</p>
<p>3. Look For the Good<br />
Third, assume that something good is hidden within each difficulty or challenge. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, a major proponent of positive thinking, once said, &#8220;Whenever God wants to give us a gift, he wraps it up in a problem.&#8221; The bigger the gift you have coming, the bigger the problem you will receive. But the wonderful thing is that if you look for the gift, you will always find it.</p>
<p>4. Seek the Valuable Lesson<br />
Fourth, assume that whatever situation you are facing at the moment is exactly the right situation you need to ultimately be successful. This situation has been sent to you to help you learn something, to help you become better, to help you expand and grow.</p>
<p>Decide to Be Positive<br />
A Positive Mental Attitude is indispensable to your success. You can be as positive as you want to be if you will simply think about the future, focus on the solution and look for the good. If you do what other successful people do, if you use your mind to exert mental control over the situation, you will be positive and cheerful most of the time. And you will reap the benefits enjoyed by all successful people.</p>
<p>Here are three steps you can take immediately to put these ideas into action:</p>
<p>MAKE IT A HABIT TO LOOK FOR ANSWERS<br />
First, become solution-oriented with every difficulty you face. Make a habit of looking for the answers to your questions, the solutions to your problems.</p>
<p>HOW CAN YOU GAIN?<br />
Second, seek for the valuable lesson in every adversity. Make a list of every idea or insight you can gain from every setback or difficulty.</p>
<p>WRITE IT DOWN TO SOLVE IT<br />
Third, think on paper. Take some time to write out every detail of the problem, and then take the most logical next step to solve it.<br />

<p>HOW CAN YOU CHANGE?<br />
If you are looking for a new job and you are struggling to secure an interview never mind a job offer, then maybe you shouold take this time to rethink your strategy, or even rethink the direction of your career.</p>
<p>RETHINK BECAUSE YOU ARE UNIQUE!<br />
Everyone has unique experiences and skills to draw upon, and just because you have applied yourself in a particular role in the past, does not mean that you cannot investigate other ways you can apply your knowledge, skills and experience to new avenues. Dont get caught in the trap that you have to stick to the same job.</p>
<p>HOW CAN YOU BECOME GREATER AND BIGGER?<br />
Take a look around you with a fresh set of eyes and start looking for new opportunities. I was watching Bloomberg television yesterday and an old new yorker self-made millionaire was being interviewed, he said that everyone should realise that &#8220;opportunity is right under your shoe&#8221;. I thought this was brilliant, opportunities are all around us every day, you just need to think how can you serve people and give them what they want, then you need to get up and take action!</p>
<p>WHAT DO EMPLOYERS WANT RIGHT NOW?<br />
If you are looking for a new job and you see an employer you really like the look of, then put yourself into the employers shoes and think, &#8220;what would i really want from a new employee?&#8221; How can you communicate and demonstrate your committment to going the extra mile for that employer? What is the extra mile for that employer? What exactly would that employer want from you? Find out what you can do to stand yourself apart from the crowd and add value to your future potential employer.</p>
